A rescue pup with an incredible story is melting hearts online after a life-changing moment that had everyone cheering.
Betty, a pit bull missing parts of both her back legs, couldn’t contain her excitement when she was finally fitted with her first prosthetic—and her reaction says everything.
The sweet dog was found wandering the streets of Queens, New York, as a puppy, alone and in rough shape. Police brought her to a local shelter before a rescue group stepped in to give her a second chance.
That’s when Sophia Cianfrani and Leif Soederberg stepped up to foster her—and quickly fell in love.
Betty is missing the paw on her right hind leg and part of her left leg up to the ankle. Vets believe her injuries were likely caused by trauma, not something she was born with. But despite everything, Betty never let it slow her down.
At first, even simple things like walking around the block or going up and down stairs were a challenge. Her foster parents had to carry her just to get outside.
But Betty kept pushing.
Before long, she was running around with other dogs at the park, mostly hopping on one leg while using the other for balance. Still, her owners worried about the long-term strain on her body and decided to explore getting her a prosthetic.
After months of evaluations and fittings, the big day finally arrived.
On March 12, Betty was fitted with her new prosthetic leg—and within moments, she was already showing it off.
In a now-viral video, Betty beams with excitement, bouncing around and even jumping off the ground—something her owners had never seen her do before.
“We hadn’t seen Betty jump before,” Soederberg said. “We never expected that kind of mobility, especially with it being her first time using the prosthetic.”
The emotional moment marked a huge milestone for the once-stray pup.

Her owners say the prosthetic is helping Betty express her true personality—full of energy, joy, and love. While she’s still getting used to it and only wears it for short periods, she’s already making incredible progress.
And through it all, Betty has remained the same happy, affectionate dog who loves meeting new people and spreading joy wherever she goes.
