A mother dog and her two puppies were saved by a good samaritan after seemingly haven been thrown from a car in the side of the road. The dogs were found on a road in Tampa, Florida. Thankfully, they’re now safe, but police are looking for whomever is responsible for leaving the dogs there in the first place.
Rescuers found the 3-year-old mother dog looking for her puppies on the side of the road in Wimauma on February 8.
According to KBTX, it’s not clear what time the dogs were found, but Valroy Road was dark when they were spotted. Rescuers, who have yet to be named, located two of the mom’s abandoned puppies. They used them to get the adult dog to safety.
Sadly, there were four other puppies who did not survive the incident. The dogs were found with injuries consistent with being thrown from a moving vehicle, the news outlet states.
“There is not one single excuse that you can come up with in this planet to dump your dog and leave something that loves you,” April McNeely, owner of the McNeely Family Rescue and Sanctuary in Central Florida that took the dogs in, explained.
The adult dog has since been named Maya and her puppies were named Valentino and Scarlett. When McNeely took X-rays of Maya, the X-rays showed scarring from previous injuries and she was malnourished. The adult dog will need surgery on her hip. As for her pups, both suffered soft tissue damage. Valentino has mobility issues and was falling over when he walked.
“Valentino was barely moving when we found him. They both were having moving problems, and they were both hypothermic. It was a very cold night,” McNeely said.
McNeely told the news outlet that the road where the dogs were found has a reputation for being a place where one can dump dogs because there aren’t any cameras. She added that she’s hoping someone will come forward with answers.

“Somebody out there has to know who Maya is and where she came from,” McNeely said. “Somebody — a neighbor, a friend, an acquaintance, somebody that worked with them, somebody that passed by their house every day.”
“This is animal cruelty,” McNeely said. “This is a punishable criminal act.”

The monster who did this needs to be thrown from a moving car. He deserves it and the puppies he did it to, didn’t. Since I know this won’t happen, he needs to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
