Part of what makes tiny kittens so cute is that everything they encounter is so new to them. That means that even when they do basic things like encounter their reflections in a mirror, the reactions are genuine and utterly precious.
Just take the tiny kitten in this video, for instance. They attempt to take on the reflection after seeing themselves in the mirror, and we don’t think they quite ever realize that they are the cat they are trying to fight.

As you can see from the video, this little kitten was completely taken for a whirl upon seeing their reflection for the first time. They were like, “wait! Who is that other kitty? I need to investigate this.”
As the showdown went on, this kitten was like, “Hey! This cat knows all my moves. How can that be?” Towards the end of the video, this confused little feline’s energy seems to teeter out of it as this altercation goes nowhere.
If we were an animal psychologist, we would say that this little kitten is their own worst enemy. But this also makes us wonder, do cats have the ability to recognize their reflections?
