If you’re the type who loves dressing up your pets in cute sweaters or goofy costumes, you’re not alone. Dogs in hoodies? Adorable. Cats in shark hats? Hilarious. But one animal you probably haven’t considered turning into a fashion icon? A chicken.

Middle Pine Farm just raised the bar with a video of her pet chicken strutting around in a taco costume — yes, seriously. And not only is the chicken completely unfazed by its crunchy new look, the caption takes the whole thing to the next level: “Honestly, the best $14 I’ve ever spent.” Honestly? We agree.

The internet, of course, couldn’t get enough. One commenter shouted, “Chicken tacoooo!!!” while another joked, “Great! Now get a harness for it and walk her around the neighborhood for Halloween this year LOL!”

We’re still cracking up.

But as funny as it is, some people started wondering: is it actually safe to put a costume on a chicken?

Turns out, the answer is yes — with a few important caveats.

According to Backyard Poultry, dressing up your bird is generally safe, but it depends heavily on the chicken’s personality. Chill, mellow chickens are best suited for the job. Feisty or flighty birds? Probably not going to tolerate a witch hat or tiny pair of sunglasses.

The CDC even weighed in, reminding chicken owners to avoid heavy fabrics or overly elaborate outfits, since birds can overheat quickly. “Less is more” is the golden rule when it comes to poultry fashion. Think light accessories, not full-on chicken ballgowns.

And if your chicken isn’t into it? Don’t force it. Some birds just aren’t meant for the costume life — and that’s okay. But if you’ve got a calm, cool clucker who loves the spotlight, go for it. The photos (and the laughs) will be totally worth it.
