If you need a heart-melting moment today, look no further than the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, where a brand-new baby Asian elephant has just made her grand debut. Born on July 23 to proud mom Sunny, this little girl tipped the scales at a healthy 215 pounds—and yes, she’s every bit as cute as you’d imagine.
The zoo shared an update on TikTok shortly after the birth, and it’s safe to say the internet has completely fallen in love. According to the zoo, there’s really only one word to describe the calf: adorable.

“She is nursing well and enjoys her nap time, too,” they wrote. “She is also comfortable straying from Mom a little bit to say hello to the care team!”
It’s the kind of sweet update that has fans swooning. One commenter gushed, “OMG. I’m crying. She’s so beautiful,” while another simply said, “She’s adorable. Welcome to the world, little one!”
And don’t worry—Sunny is doing great, too. The zoo praised her maternal instincts, saying she’s adjusting to motherhood beautifully and keeping a close eye on her baby girl.
“Sunny’s pregnancy lasted nearly two years—and through it all, her dedicated care team was by her side every step of the way,” the zoo shared. “That trust made all the difference during the birth, creating a calm, smooth experience for both mom and baby.”
Thanks to the hard work of her keepers and the close bond they built with Sunny, this little elephant entered the world surrounded by care, compassion, and purpose. It’s another major step in protecting this endangered species—and a reminder of how powerful animal care can be.
So far, the baby elephant hasn’t been named, but fans are already eager to find out what she’ll be called. As for when visitors can meet her in person? The zoo says she’s not viewable to the public just yet, but to stay tuned on their social media for updates.
We’ll definitely be watching.
