Getting a kitten is pure joy — they’re tiny, sweet, and endlessly adorable. But one of the most exciting parts of raising a Siamese kitten is watching how their fur changes as they grow. One cat mom, Kristi, shared the dramatic “before and after” of her boy Alfie on TikTok, and the transformation left viewers stunned.
When Alfie was a baby, he was small, fluffy, and almost completely white. Kristi even joked in her video, “I wonder how much he will toast as he gets older?” Fast forward to today, and Alfie’s glow-up is unbelievable — he’s not just bigger, he’s now a deep brown, which his mom jokingly called “burnt.”

The video struck a chord with other Siamese cat owners who’ve seen the same thing with their pets. “I named my girl Toast for this very reason!” one person joked. Another added, “Mine is burnt around the edges but lightly toasted in the middle.”
As it turns out, there’s science behind this adorable change. Siamese cats’ fur color is affected by temperature. Their unique coloring comes from an enzyme called tyrosinase, which is more active in cooler areas of the body, creating darker fur. Warmer areas stay lighter. That’s why Siamese cats born white “toast up” as they grow, with their ears, face, paws, and tail turning darker over time.
Alfie may have started out snow-white, but his transformation proves just how magical the Siamese breed can be. And whether “lightly toasted” or “burnt,” this handsome boy is still stealing hearts online.
