A rescued baby elephant was observed sleeping peacefully beside a child who had become her close companion, reflecting the strong bonds elephants can form with humans who show them care and safety. In general, rescued elephants often develop trusting relationships with their human caretakers. Having endured hardship or trauma before rescue, they can display deep emotional intelligence, recognising kindness and responding with affection. Such relationships highlight both the social nature of elephants and the importance of sanctuaries in providing them with security, healing, and companionship. Viewers couldn’t get enough of the sweet moment, and many were fascinated by the fun fact Wildlife Rescuers shared about elephant trunks. These amazing trunks are used for everything from eating and drinking to communicating and even making tools. At the tip are two “finger-like” projections — one pointy and one rounded — that allow elephants to pinch, grasp, and even use suction to pick up objects with incredible precision.

In fact, studies show that the tip of an elephant’s trunk has a maximum pinch force of 86.4 Newtons — stronger than a human grip, yet delicate enough to pluck a single piece of fruit. And while they can use their trunks gently, don’t be fooled: these powerful appendages are also strong enough to uproot entire trees.

Cute, clever, and just a little bit demanding — this baby elephant has stolen the internet’s heart and his well-earned apple.
