A golden retriever with a serious love for swimming just lived out every dog’s dream when he scored an invite to the ultimate birthday bash—an indoor pool party—and his reaction was pure joy.
Chili, a 6-year-old golden retriever, is obsessed with water in all forms. Clean pool, lake, ocean, muddy puddle—it truly doesn’t matter. If there’s water, Chili is in. His owner, Gailin Heller, says the obsession started early, explaining that Chili has basically been a water baby since he was just 2 months old.
At this point, she jokes, he’s more goldfish than golden retriever.
During warmer months, Chili swims daily in Lake Hopatcong, New Jersey, but winter weather put an end to his favorite activity back in October. That dry spell made his most recent invitation even more exciting.
Chili was invited to another dog’s birthday party—BoJack the Labrador—and the celebration just happened to be an indoor pool party. For a dog who hadn’t swum in months, it was basically the canine equivalent of winning the lottery.

Heller said Chili seemed to know exactly where he was going the moment they arrived. He tugged at his leash with excitement, and once his life jacket was secured, there was absolutely no holding him back. He launched himself straight into the pool like he’d been waiting for this moment all winter.
The joy on Chili’s face was unmistakable. Heller said his smile was so infectious that it encouraged other dogs at the party to jump in and give swimming a try too. Before long, the pool was filled with splashing pups having the time of their lives.
The moment was captured on Chili’s social media accounts, and the internet instantly fell in love. Video clips of his first-ever pool party have racked up more than 1.6 million views and hundreds of thousands of likes, with viewers unable to get enough of the water-loving golden retriever.
The party itself didn’t disappoint. The dogs spent hours swimming, playing water games, and enjoying plenty of treats and cheese. Once they were finally tired out, they moved to another room packed with tunnels, toys, and even a piñata.
Heller and Chili stayed for about three hours, and it’s safe to say the day landed high on Chili’s list of all-time favorites.
Heller said fans love watching Chili’s fearless jumps and swimming adventures, especially during winter when most dogs are stuck indoors. Seeing happy dogs splashing around, she said, is contagious in the best way.
The comments proved her right. Viewers joked that Chili must have been a mermaid in a past life. Others laughed that the dogs probably slept like rocks afterward. Many simply said watching the video made their hearts happy.
For Chili, it was more than a party—it was a long-awaited return to the water, surrounded by friends, treats, and the happiest kind of chaos.
