Hunting dogs are usually praised for their courage, speed, and confidence — but one German shorthaired pointer’s over-the-top fear of a tiny cat has sent the internet into fits of laughter.
The hilarious moment was shared on TikTok by user @why.is.the.gundog, capturing the exact second the confident-looking GSP completely lost his nerve. In the video, the dog cautiously creeps down the stairs inside his family’s home, only to freeze when he spots a small ginger cat waiting down the hallway.
Instead of standing his ground, the large dog panics. As he inches closer, he suddenly ducks behind his owner’s legs and flat-out refuses to go any further. Despite gentle encouragement to keep moving, the visibly shaken pup backs away and retreats up the stairs until the cat is removed from his path.
To put the dramatic standoff into perspective, the owner added text to the video explaining that this reaction came from a “30 kg hunting hound” encountering a “0.5 kg cat.”

According to the American Kennel Club, German shorthaired pointers are known for their high energy levels and strong prey drive, making them skilled and versatile hunting dogs. But in this case, the fearless reputation didn’t quite hold up — the cat clearly had the upper paw.
Even the dog’s owner couldn’t help but poke fun at the situation, captioning the video with a joking remark: “what a baby.”
And the embarrassment didn’t stop there. In a follow-up video, the TikTok user showed the GSP still struggling to coexist with the feline. The nervous dog anxiously circles the room, refusing to walk past the cat at all. Eventually, the owner gives up and physically picks up the pointer, carrying him out of the room to safety.
Viewers couldn’t get enough of the dog’s exaggerated fear, flooding the comments section with jokes and support. More than 170 comments have already piled up beneath the viral clip.
“He’s a pointer not a fighter,” one person wrote.
“God forbid a smart canine has some healthy boundaries,” another joked.
A third added, “He knows what orange cats are like.”
One commenter summed it up perfectly: “The dog: immediately no.”
