A beautiful Husky who was left behind by his family came heartbreakingly close to losing his life — but now he is getting the fresh start he always deserved.
Frances Buckley, a 6-year-old Siberian Husky, ended up at Southern California’s Downey Animal Care Center after his family reportedly moved away without him. Even with his gorgeous white coat, gentle personality, and calm, well-mannered nature, he still found himself on the euthanasia list — the place no shelter animal should ever have to be.
Thankfully, his story did not end there.
On March 26, Frances Buckley was pulled from the shelter by @amandacardinal17 and Concerned Citizens Animal Rescue, who gave him the freedom ride every shelter dog dreams of. And from the moment he stepped out, it was obvious this sweet boy was more than ready to leave that kennel behind.
He may have been one of the most polite dogs in the shelter, but he had clearly been waiting far too long for someone to notice him.

With his fluffy white coat and striking looks, Frances Buckley makes an instant impression. But it is his soft, gentle energy that really steals hearts. One commenter summed up what so many people were thinking when they wrote, “He’s so chill and gentle. Why would no one want him?”
Sadly, that is the cruel reality for so many amazing shelter dogs. Sometimes it has nothing to do with their behavior or personality at all. Big dogs often get passed over simply because not everyone has the space, time, or confidence to take one home. And in crowded shelters, even incredible animals can get lost in the shuffle.
But Frances Buckley’s luck finally changed.
His freedom ride turned into an emotional moment almost immediately. Amanda’s roomy car, a little sunshine, and some tasty treats made his first taste of freedom even sweeter. At one point, he stood up with his head through the sunroof, soaking in the moment like he knew his life had just changed.
And somehow, he got even more lovable.
Even while eating chicken nuggets, Frances Buckley stayed incredibly gentle, which matched everything people had already seen from him. He was sweet, calm, and instantly trusting — the kind of dog who makes you wonder how he was ever overlooked in the first place.
The best part is how relaxed he already seemed with Amanda in those very first moments. That kind of comfort says a lot. It is a sign that he is ready to decompress, feel safe, and finally let his true personality shine.
For rescue dogs, the freedom ride is only the beginning. Once they get to a foster home, they still need time to settle in and learn that they are safe. Some dogs take weeks or even months to fully come out of their shells.
But Frances Buckley seems to be wasting no time at all.
