A woman kept waking up with a strange feeling that something wasn’t right. Her hair looked shorter—but how was that possible when she’d been asleep the whole time?
The answer showed up one morning, sitting right on her bed.
Instead of loose strands or normal shedding, she found small pieces of hair that had clearly been cut clean. Not broken. Not brushed out. Snipped. And it was starting to leave her hair uneven.
The woman, known on TikTok as @maymaymoonpieprincess, tried to make sense of it. Nothing about it added up—until she finally looked up and saw her orange cat sitting beside her, looking completely satisfied.
That’s when it clicked.
Perched near her head, the cat had his paws stretched toward her hair like he had a job to finish. The “mystery haircut” wasn’t random at all—it was happening night after night, and the culprit had been right there the entire time.
She managed to capture the moment, snapping a photo of the cat next to the freshly chewed-off pieces of her hair. She later shared it in a TikTok video on February 22, which has since racked up more than 709,000 views.

As for the cat? Totally unbothered. If anything, he looked slightly annoyed that she woke up and interrupted his work.
TikTok users had plenty to say once the video started making the rounds. Some joked that the cat was just trying to help with her hairstyle.
“No split ends on his watch,” one person wrote.
Another added, “Ahh, the midnight barber. He does his best work while you’re sleeping!”
Others said they weren’t surprised at all, pointing to the chaotic reputation orange cats tend to have. A few even shared similar stories of their own pets sneaking in unexpected “haircuts”—especially around breakfast time.
One user commented, “…I need to hide under the covers every morning, he does it when he’s waiting for his breakfast. Even when the auto feeder is set to exactly 7:30 every morning.”
