An Australian Shepherd’s dreamy raft ride in Hawaii turned into an unforgettable playdate when her dolphin friend decided to give her a gentle push.

Freyja, an Australian Shepherd, was lounging on a floating raft in a palm tree-lined cove when a dolphin swam up beside her and began nudging the raft through the water.

The pup did not seem bothered at all. In fact, Freyja looked perfectly relaxed as she let the dolphin guide her along.

She stayed stretched out on the raft, enjoying the breeze, the sunshine and the slow ride from her unlikely ocean friend.

At times, the dolphin dipped beneath the water, almost as if it were playing hide-and-seek with Freyja. When the dolphin disappeared under the surface, Freyja quickly sat up and looked around, appearing to wonder where her friend had gone.

The playful moment was sweet enough on its own, but Freyja’s bond with dolphins is not just a one-time thing.

The Australian Shepherd has appeared in several videos with dolphins at Dolphin Quest Hawaii, an organization known for up-close dolphin encounters.

A comment from Freyja’s Instagram account summed up the heartwarming friendship perfectly.

“Some friendships don’t need much… Just curiosity and kindness,” the account shared. “Watching a dog and a dolphin connect is such a simple reminder of how enriching interspecies friendships can be.”

A look through Freyja’s Instagram page shows even more moments with her Dolphin Quest playmates. In some videos, she floats calmly as dolphins swim around her. In others, she appears to take part in training and painting activities alongside them.

It is clear Freyja has formed a special connection with the dolphins.

And while the friendship may seem unusual, dogs and dolphins have been known to bond before.

In Ireland, a Labrador named Ben famously formed a longtime friendship with a dolphin named Duggie. The pair reportedly spent hours swimming together over the years.

In Florida, a Golden Retriever named Gunner and a dolphin named Delta also became known for their bond after meeting at the Dolphin Research Center when they were both young.

Researchers have found that animals are capable of forming meaningful social relationships not only with members of their own species, but sometimes with animals from completely different species.

Many animals can also work together, respond emotionally and build bonds through repeated positive interactions.

Dolphins, in particular, are known for being intelligent, social and playful. They have complex communication systems, strong social networks and the ability to form attachments.

That makes Freyja’s friendship with the dolphins especially fascinating.

Australian Shepherds are also highly intelligent and social dogs. They are energetic, loyal and often thrive when they have something to focus on, whether it is training, playtime or bonding with their humans.

In Freyja’s case, that social nature seems to extend to her dolphin friends.
