Travel content creator Veronica, known online as @veronica.venturing, and her husband were setting up camp by the river on June 14 when they heard barking in the distance.
The couple soon realized the cries were coming from two Labrador Retrievers who appeared to be stuck on a steep riverbank and in need of help.
The dogs, both chocolate Labs, eventually made their way to the couple’s campsite, where they were welcomed with kindness, safety and even a steak dinner.
The Idaho wilderness can be a dangerous place for lost pets, but the two dogs appeared to be in surprisingly good shape. They had no obvious injuries or signs of illness, and it was clear they were loved by someone.
One of the dogs was more nervous around strangers, while the other was comfortable enough to let Veronica check her over and remove several ticks from her body.
As the night went on, pieces of the mystery began coming together. Veronica said another good Samaritan had reportedly spotted the dogs in a different location about six hours before the couple found them.
That raised even more questions. Had the dogs wandered away from home? Did they escape during an outdoor adventure? Or had something happened to their owner?
For the night, at least, the lost dogs were no longer alone.

The couple already had a steak dinner planned for themselves and their animals, so the lucky Labs got to enjoy a feast of kibble and steak after their stressful day by the river.
The sweet dogs settled in with Veronica’s pack for a cozy night of rest, turning what could have been a scary wilderness ordeal into something that looked almost like a surprise camping vacation.
Viewers quickly praised the couple for helping the dogs and shared suggestions for tracking down their owner.
For now, the two Labs are safe, fed and cared for after stumbling across the kind of rescuers every lost dog deserves.
