A group of golfers in Canada got the surprise of a lifetime when a black bear wandered onto the course and appeared ready to join their game.
The unexpected encounter happened near the 12th hole at a golf course in Pitt Meadows, British Columbia, where the curious bear calmly approached a golf cart before grabbing a man’s golf bag and carrying it away.
For a moment, the scene looked almost too strange to be real. The bear walked off with the clubs as though it knew exactly what it was doing, leaving the stunned golfers to watch from a safe distance.
Although black bears are common in parts of Canada, especially around British Columbia, seeing one strolling through a busy golf course is far from an everyday occurrence.
One of the golfers later explained that the bear may have been more interested in a snack than improving its swing.
“We noticed behind us that a bear had come out of the bush to our right and was wandering over to our cart,” the golfer told USA Today. “It must have picked up a scent of some trail mix in the bag of clubs attached to the golf cart.”
That explanation makes the unusual behavior easier to understand. Bears are naturally curious and often investigate anything that smells like food, so the animal likely followed the scent of the trail mix before pulling the bag away from the cart.

Fortunately, the bear did not appear interested in the golfers themselves, and everyone wisely kept their distance while the animal investigated the clubs.
The bizarre scene quickly sparked plenty of jokes from viewers online.
“Bear wants to improve his game but isn’t allowed in the pro shop anymore,” one commenter wrote.
Another joked that the bear seemed to be telling the golfer, “You suck at golf anyway, I’ll just take these off your hands, bud.”
It remains unclear whether the golfer managed to recover his clubs, but the wild encounter gave everyone on the course a story they are unlikely to forget.
