An orange-and-white Basset Hound and her matching feline sibling may not have come from the same litter, but try telling them that.
A sweet video shared by Instagram user @basset_chaos shows how the Basset Hound slowly won over the family’s orange cat, transforming an awkward introduction into an adorable friendship.
The pair already look remarkably alike. Both have orange-and-white coloring, including a white stripe running down the middle of their faces and warmer coloring around their eyes and ears.
Their personalities, however, didn’t immediately match.
When the Basset Hound was still a puppy, she appeared fascinated by the cat and repeatedly tried to get close to her. The cat was much less enthusiastic about the new arrival and could be seen giving the persistent puppy several firm swats on the head.
But the little dog refused to give up.
As the puppy grew, the two animals gradually became more comfortable around each other. Clips in the montage show them spending more time together, playing and eventually seeking each other out for affection.
The video’s onscreen message perfectly sums up their relationship: “Never tell them that they are not siblings.”

Set to Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide,” the montage shows just how dramatically their relationship changed over time.
By the end of the video, the former reluctant roommates are happily curled up together. In one especially adorable moment, the Basset Hound rests her head on the cat while one of her huge floppy ears falls across the kitty’s face like a blanket.
Viewers immediately fell in love with the matching pair.
“Fraternal twins, not identical — still twins,” one person joked.
“There’s no question that they are siblings. The resemblance is undeniable,” another wrote.
A third viewer may have summed it up best: “Definitely painted with the same brush.”
They may technically be a dog and a cat, but judging by their matching looks and increasingly close bond, these two certainly seem convinced they’re family.
