Golden Retrievers have a reputation for being gentle souls, and one sweet pup named Charlie may have just proven exactly why.
Charlie was relaxing in the garden with his mom on Sept. 19 when a monarch butterfly suddenly decided he looked like the perfect place to land.
The tiny visitor fluttered from his mom’s hand and settled right on Charlie’s nose.
Instead of jumping back or trying to swat it away, Charlie froze.
His eyes widened as he carefully watched the butterfly crawling across his snout, looking equal parts confused and fascinated.
The moment was almost too cute to be real.

Charlie stayed remarkably calm, allowing the butterfly to rest on his face without making any sudden movements.
For a dog who could easily have frightened the delicate insect away, his patience made the encounter even sweeter.
His expression may have been the best part.
Charlie stared at the butterfly with huge, curious eyes, as though he was trying to figure out exactly what had landed on him.
And when the monarch finally fluttered away, he kept watching closely, seemingly fascinated by his unexpected little garden guest.
Viewers quickly fell in love with the gentle interaction.
One person joked that the butterfly must have known Charlie was “pure of heart,” and it’s easy to see why people felt that way.
Butterflies will sometimes land on animals, people or objects while resting or investigating their surroundings, but seeing one peacefully perch on a Golden Retriever’s nose is still a pretty special sight.
Charlie may not have known what to make of his tiny visitor, but he handled the moment like the sweetest gentleman imaginable.
For a few seconds, it looked less like an ordinary afternoon in the garden and more like something straight out of a fairy tale.
