Golden Retrievers may have a reputation for being sweet, obedient family dogs, but one mischievous puppy just proved they can also be surprisingly talented escape artists.
A Golden Retriever puppy named Sparky has gone viral after his owner caught him performing an impressive getaway from a puppy gate that was supposed to keep him contained.
The little pup’s escape was so smooth that viewers quickly began comparing him to legendary magician and escape artist Harry Houdini.
In the video, Sparky approaches the gate separating him from the rest of the house and somehow manages to squeeze his body through a tiny opening near the top.
There doesn’t appear to be an obvious step or ledge for him to use.
Instead, the determined puppy stretches himself upward, hoists his body through the narrow space and eventually wriggles his way to freedom.

His owner happened to be working from home and caught the entire escape in progress.
The impressive maneuver quickly earned Sparky the nickname “Hairy Houdini” from amused viewers.
Millions of people have since watched the clip, with many struggling to understand how the flexible little Golden managed to pull it off.
One viewer joked that they wanted to know Sparky’s “diet plan” after watching him squeeze through such a small gap.
Others were simply impressed by the puppy’s determination.
Even Indeed’s social media team joined the fun, joking that Sparky shouldn’t be described as untrustworthy but instead as “ambitious and solutions-oriented.”
And honestly, it’s hard to argue with that description.
Golden Retrievers are known for being intelligent, social and eager to be near their people, which can occasionally make barriers around the house feel more like puzzles waiting to be solved.
For Sparky, this particular gate clearly wasn’t going to stand between him and whatever adventure was waiting on the other side.
His owner may need to rethink the setup now that Sparky has discovered his secret escape route.
Once a puppy learns that a gate can be defeated, convincing him to stay behind it again may be the real challenge.
