An enormous gorilla and a tiny squirrel might seem like an unlikely pair, but one adorable encounter at the Cincinnati Zoo is melting hearts across the internet!
In a sweet video shared on social media, a curious squirrel wanders into a gorilla’s enclosure and catches the attention of its much larger resident.
Instead of ignoring the unexpected visitor, the gorilla becomes fascinated by the little animal, watching closely as the squirrel explores its surroundings.
And the size difference between these two makes the encounter even cuter!
The squirrel seems perfectly comfortable investigating the enclosure, even stopping to nibble on food while the gorilla looks on with curiosity.
At one point, the massive ape gently reaches toward the squirrel, almost as though he’s hoping to touch his tiny new visitor. But the quick little critter immediately hops away, keeping a safe distance from those enormous hands.
The gorilla doesn’t appear bothered by the rejection. He simply continues watching the squirrel, seemingly puzzled by the tiny creature hopping around his home.

Meanwhile, the family filming the encounter can be heard reacting with delight, making the unexpected meeting even more entertaining.
Viewers were equally charmed by the gorilla’s gentle-looking behavior.
“I like that they also understand the concept of petting a cute little animal,” one commenter joked.
Gorillas are remarkably intelligent animals, known for their curiosity, strong family bonds and ability to interact carefully with their surroundings. Although their enormous size can make them seem intimidating, they are often surprisingly gentle in calm situations.
Of course, it’s impossible to know exactly what this gorilla was thinking, but his interest in the tiny visitor certainly makes for an adorable moment.
And as for the squirrel? He seems far more interested in exploring the food than making friends with one of the zoo’s biggest residents!
It’s a hilarious reminder that sometimes the sweetest animal encounters happen when two completely different creatures unexpectedly cross paths.
