A nurse named Katie and her husband visited an animal shelter in Phoenix, Arizona, on April 30, where they met their perfect match. This Pit Bull boy was the ‘saddest dog at the shelter’ before they found him, but the way he lit up after meeting them could put a smile on anyone’s face.

Congratulations, sweet boy! It seems like you hit the jackpot with Katie and her husband (and a Chiweenie doggie sibling at home). This empathetic dog mom was in tears while visiting the sweet shelter dogs, and the fact that they celebrated with cheeseburgers says it all.

Showing a shelter pet a little bit of love can literally change their life, and this is the perfect proof. However, if you ask me, it seems like the dog parents’ lives have changed for the better, too!
Many dogs find the shelter environment to be loud, lonely, and overstimulating. Plenty of shy rescue pets end up being outgoing and energetic once they’re in a more relaxing environment where their needs are all met. Shelter staff and volunteers do their best to keep their residents entertained, but nothing is better for a dog than a safe home with a loving, attentive owner or family. Now that this precious Pit Bull is headed home, he’ll be able to blossom into his true self.
On the first video that Katie posted about going to the animal shelter, someone made a comment that got viewers thinking: “As someone that works in rescue thank you so much for adopting– and a Pittie boy!” Why does it matter that he’s a male Pit Bull?
Statistically, this rescue dog’s demographic waits a very long time at shelters. Pit Bulls tend to have longer shelter stays than most other dog breeds, as do adult dogs (puppies are adopted quickly). However, not many people know that female dogs are adopted more often than males. This may be due to female dogs reaching maturity at a younger age or due to the role testosterone plays in some male dogs’ territorial behavior.
