When it comes to a dog’s favorite food, it’s almost never kibble. Even though high-quality dry dog foods have all the nutrients most dogs need to stay strong and healthy, they rarely have the richness and taste that wet food and human foods have. When you think about it, it’s no question why dogs prefer to beg for a bite of our food instead of eating theirs!
Most of the time, it’s important to monitor the people food you share with your dog so that most of their calories comes form their dog food at meals, not snacks and treats. When you have a malnourished senior foster dog, though, what they eat isn’t as important as if they eat at all.
Just ask Alexa, or @tellingourtails! This NYC dog foster mom has helped dogs of all ages and sizes feel more like themselves again, but it’s impossible not to fall in love with her senior foster pup, Rebecca. At first, she wasn’t eating much, but everything changed when Rebecca tried a bite of pizza for the very first time.

LOL, she loved that pizza! Her entire personality did a 180 when she tasted that first bite of cheesy goodness, and we completely understand.
“You surround yourself with good people,” commented @kinjmoney. “Your friend did not hesitate with that pizza.” That’s actually Alexa, the senior dog’s foster mom, who fed her the bite of pizza, while Auntie and fellow foster mom Isabel held her in her carrier.
You know what they say—team work makes the dream work! It’s essential to have friends and family to support you while fostering rescue dogs, but it’s even better if they have experience fostering, too. This is how the foster and rescue community becomes like a big, happy family!
In a matter of days, Rebecca went from underweight and refusing to eat to excited for her next meal or outing. She’s like an entirely different dog!
Love looks great on you, Rebecca! It’s magical to watch this tiny dog‘s life change thanks to a little bit of kindness and comfort, but we can only imagine how incredible it must feel to witness this change firsthand. Thank you, Alexa, for changing this pup’s life for the better!
