Dog mom Lucy Morrison, 21, has shared a video of her dog, Chester, going downstairs in his unconventional way. Walking down each step one at a time would be far too simple for the 4-year-old golden retriever, who much prefers to slide down the staircase instead.
This isn’t just something that Chester started doing recently either, as he has been sliding down the stairs ever since he was a puppy. It has been four years since it began, and Morrison, of Ireland, explains that it has become a daily ritual ever since.
“It usually happens out of pure excitement,” Morrison said. “Whether it’s all of us waking up in the morning, or someone mentioning the word ‘walk,’ a dangerous word in our house. He sprawls himself down the stairs, almost like a dramatic tumble.
“He often ends up in a traffic jam, with our sausage dog trailing closely behind. Even when we take him swimming, he’s not keen on floating—he just sprawls out on his belly, making noises that sound suspiciously like a seal,” Morrison added.
While it is unclear exactly why Chester doesn’t like the conventional way of walking downstairs, his owner said it is just his way of expressing his excitement.
Sometimes, Morrison will be lying in bed and hear “a loud thump” out in the hallway. She immediately knows that Chester is awake and ready for another chaotic morning. Seeing Chester slide down the stairs always makes Morrison laugh, but it also leaves her wondering, “what have we raised?”
“Sometimes, if I’m carrying a big basket of laundry, I just shake my head and wonder when he’ll finally decide to use his legs,” Morrison said.
After capturing a video of her goofy golden retriever, Morrison couldn’t resist sharing it on TikTok (@lucy_morrison18). In just a matter of days, the hilarious clip has now gone viral.

Layered over the footage, the caption reads that Chester “likes to make an entrance every morning.” He certainly accomplishes that.
The online reaction is beyond anything Morrison expected since sharing the video on TikTok. Chester has provided her with plenty of entertainment over the years, but she never imagined his antics would generate so much attention on social media.
Morrison said: “I always knew he was a funny dog, and people who’ve seen him sliding around in person are usually shocked. But I think he’s earned himself a bag of treats.”
Chester has become somewhat of a social-media sensation after going viral, leading to more than 4,200 comments on the TikTok post.
One comment reads: “Chester is onto something.”
Another TikTok user wrote: “Chester is a star and deserves a star level entrance.”
A third replied: “He’s very efficient combining relocation with underbelly care.”
One commenter added: “At this point I think you should replace the staircase with a slide.”
