Twelve-year-old Tigger had no idea his time was almost up.

Lying quietly on the floor of a crowded Atlanta shelter, he was just hours away from being euthanized due to lack of space—one more forgotten soul in a system stretched to its limits. But in a twist worthy of a movie, a last-minute rescue sparked by a viral video gave him the second chance he never saw coming.

“Tigger had been surrendered to the shelter in Atlanta, Georgia,” said Erica Perets, founder of the nonprofit RescueMeATL. “Because of the shelter overpopulation crisis, he unfortunately quickly made the euthanasia list.”

Perets, a tireless advocate for senior dogs, rushed to meet him.

“No one had shown interest in him, so I went to see if I could help get him noticed,” she said. “What I found was the sweetest old soul. Watching him slowly get up off that cold shelter floor broke my heart.”

On June 25, she shared a video of Tigger to RescueMeATL’s Instagram account. In it, the frail senior dog gingerly walks around his outdoor kennel at Fulton County Animal Services. The caption was as raw as it was heartbreaking.

“I almost didn’t wake him, because his dreams had to be better than here,” Perets wrote. “But when he saw he had a visitor, he tried to pop up—only to slip on the floor. All I could think was: he deserves beds, warm baths, not aching bones and cold cement.”

She ended with an urgent plea: “If you can give 12-year-old Tigger the senior years he deserves, please come quickly. Deadline: Thursday 6/26 at 7 p.m.”

The video exploded. Over 138,000 views and thousands of likes later, people from across the country reached out to help.

One of them stepped up in the nick of time—and adopted Tigger.

Now, instead of a lonely kennel and a ticking clock, Tigger is enjoying soft beds, spa days, home-cooked meals, and endless affection in a home that treasures him.

“Tigger is living out his golden years surrounded by love,” Perets said.

His story, while heartwarming, also serves as a sobering reminder of the crisis unfolding in shelters nationwide. For every Tigger who gets a second chance, there are thousands more still waiting.

“Imagining my own dog in his place shattered me,” Perets said. “That’s why I had to share Tigger’s story.”

Sometimes, all it takes is one video to save a life.
