Some dogs are born water lovers, and others… well, they need a little time to figure it out. One giant Great Dane named Bruce is winning over TikTok with his hilarious first encounter with a bathtub — and viewers can’t get enough of the gentle giant’s curiosity.
In a now-viral clip shared by @sirbrucee, Bruce towers over the tub while his owner relaxes inside, soaking in their new home’s bath for the first time. Text layered on the video explains: “My 1.5-year-old Great Dane had never seen a bathtub until today, when we moved to our new home.”

Bruce seems completely mesmerized. He stares at the water, tilts his head, and studies the strange setup, clearly trying to make sense of it all. But curiosity quickly wins — he dips a paw into the water, leans in for a closer sniff, and then decides the tub must be a giant water bowl. Without hesitation, he slurps up a few cheeky sips while his owner sits perfectly still, letting him explore.
Since being posted on September 7, the video has racked up over 455,000 views, nearly 58,000 likes, and hundreds of comments from dog lovers sharing their own pets’ bathtub adventures. One user wrote, “Mine would have jumped in. He LOVES water. And he loves to stick his head into it to blow bubbles.” The owner hilariously replied, “Mine too, I just don’t think he understood how to actually get his body in!”
Another commenter joked, “He’s saying, ‘Why in the world are you sitting in my water dish?’” And one fan predicted, “Give him a couple of days and he’ll be a mermaid. He is adorable.”
Great Danes may be massive, but according to the American Kennel Club, they don’t need frequent baths. Weekly brushing with a grooming mitt or hound glove usually keeps shedding under control, though during shedding season, daily brushing may be necessary. As Dr. Preston Turano, a veterinarian and spokesperson for AKC Pet Insurance, previously told Newsweek: “There is no need to wash a dog weekly unless directed by your veterinarian for a specific skin condition. But washing weekly runs the risk of causing dry skin. It also may damage the coat based on the breed.”
For now, though, Bruce isn’t worried about grooming — he’s just trying to figure out why his human is sitting in what he’s convinced is the world’s largest water bowl.
