Most grandmas love babysitting their grandkids, but one grandma on TikTok got a surprise when she realized she wasn’t the only one on duty.
In a viral clip posted by @lalalife_22, Grandma walks in to check on her sleeping granddaughter, only to find that the family’s cat, Butterbean, had already claimed the role of babysitter. The little one was fast asleep in her crib, while Butterbean was snuggled right up beside her, keeping watch like a pro.

The fluffy feline looked perfectly at home curled up next to the baby, and commenters couldn’t get over his serious expression when Grandma walked in. One person joked, “Can I help you?!” while another added, “‘I just got her down, get OUT!!’” Grandma even laughed along, saying the cat’s eyes really did say it all.
Others pointed out that the family dog was stationed at the door, making it a full security team. “Door security and someone on bed watch. Awesome team 10/10!” one commenter wrote. Another joked that Butterbean was “the best weighted blanket ever.”
While the scene is undeniably cute, experts caution that cats should never be left alone in a crib with a baby. Healthline notes that cats can pose a suffocation risk if they cuddle too close, even though old myths about cats “stealing babies’ breath” aren’t true.
To keep things safe, parents are advised to keep cats out of sleeping spaces by closing doors, setting up baby gates, and always supervising if pets and babies are together.
Even with those warnings, there’s no denying Butterbean’s heart was in the right place. This sweet cat clearly wanted to help out, proving once again that fur babies sometimes take their babysitting duties very seriously.
