Avery, the cockatoo at Columbus Zoo, has officially claimed the title of the internet’s favorite dancer. A recent video of her showing off her moves has gone viral, and it’s impossible not to smile while watching.
With her tail feathers shaking and what looks like a big cockatoo grin, Avery really knows how to put on a show. The zoo shared that she dances all day, every day, and after seeing her groove, we totally get why.

Fans have been quick to react, showering Avery with praise. One commenter said, “Now that’s a showgirl!” while another joked, “In her Showbird era…” Others simply admitted they can’t stop watching, with one person saying, “This is what the internet was made for.”
So, is Avery really dancing? According to experts, yes! Birds like cockatoos are “vocal learners,” meaning they can pick up sounds and rhythms from their environment. Combine that with their ability to imitate movements, form social bonds, and learn complex sequences, and you’ve got a feathered dance phenom.
While dolphins, elephants, and other animals can technically dance, it’s rare to see them move to music spontaneously. Avery, on the other hand, is living her best life on the dancefloor, and we’re all here for it.
