Sometimes animals are a little too eager to make friends — and a TikTok shared by Ivy Gardner perfectly captures that kind of adorable overconfidence.

In the short clip, one of Gardner’s baby horses decides an emu would make an excellent new playmate. Spoiler alert: the emu does not agree. The video, which has quickly charmed viewers, may be one of the cutest and funniest animal moments you’ll see all day.

The scene opens inside a barn, where the emu is minding his own business near the horse stalls. It doesn’t take long for the curious colt to trot into frame, clearly thrilled by the idea of a new friend. You can practically hear the baby horse thinking, “Let’s play!” while the emu’s body language screams, “No thank you.”

The emu quickly turns and bolts, and the little horse happily follows along, completely missing every possible hint to stop. Watching the two dash across the barn is exhausting in the best way — the colt’s enthusiasm is unmatched, and the emu’s escape plan is clearly well-practiced.

Judging by Gardner’s caption, this might not be a one-time event. She joked that the colt was probably thinking, “Is this my new friend? LOL!” Meanwhile, the emu seemed determined to prove that friendship was absolutely not on the agenda.

Viewers couldn’t get enough of the awkward chase and flooded the comments with jokes. One person imagined the emu leading the horse on a wild goose chase just to cause trouble, while another joked that running after an emu might cause the horse to “grow wings.”

Several commenters were especially amused by the colt’s unique trot, pointing out that somehow he moves the way the emu runs — a comparison that strangely makes perfect sense once you see it. Others admitted it looked like a terrible idea but still begged for more videos.

So far, there haven’t been any updates on whether this unlikely friendship ever worked out. But judging by how determined that little horse looked, we have a feeling he hasn’t given up just yet — and we’ll definitely be watching for the next chapter.
