Most dogs are incredibly forgiving. Step on their tail? They’ll recover. Take them to the groomer? They’ll survive. Even throwing out their favorite, completely-destroyed toy can eventually be forgiven.
But according to Maverick the Golden Retriever, there is one unforgivable offense: being late with dinner.
In a now-viral TikTok, Maverick’s mom shared the moment she got home from work a little later than usual. The fluffy pup was sitting by the door waiting when she walked in — and she assumed it was a sweet greeting.
It wasn’t.

Instead of excited tail wags and happy jumps, Maverick turned around and walked away. He glanced at the kitchen counter, then back at her, delivering what can only be described as a “Do you even know what time it is?” look.
Mom tried to defend herself. “I was stuck in traffic,” she explains.
Maverick was not interested.
While she starts getting his food ready, he marches back to his usual dining spot and stares her down again, as if to say, “Are you bringing it or what?”
The second the bowl hits the floor, he dives in. No small talk. No affection. Just business.
“You’re so impatient! I didn’t even take my coat or my bag off!” Mom tells him. But by then, Maverick is already too busy inhaling his dinner to care.
Naturally, viewers were fully on Team Maverick.
“He’s withering away as you speak!! Feed him!!” one person joked.
Another referenced a previous video and teased, “First you leave for work when there’s snow to play in, now you’re late for dinner. Momma, I would be concerned about the quarterly performance review…”
One Golden owner chimed in with a relatable confession: “I have a golden, she’d sacrifice me for food any day! They crack me up!”
Honestly, Maverick is giving serious hungry-teenager energy — skipping the hello and heading straight to “What’s for dinner?” And with a face that cute, he absolutely knows he can get away with it.
