A simple favor turned into a viral moment — and the internet cannot get enough.

A woman in Greenville, South Carolina, was asked to check on her friend’s cat while the owner was out of town. Sounds routine, right?

Not exactly.

In a now-viral TikTok posted in January under the username @baileykenyon, the woman walks into the home expecting a quick check-in. Instead, she finds a fluffy white cat completely passed out on his little bed near the couch — peacefully snoozing to the soothing sound of running water from the kitchen sink.

“My buddy asked me to check on her cat while she was out of town… This is what I walked in to,” the caption reads. “I wonder if he’s dreaming about the ocean???”

The video has racked up more than 487,000 views and over 63,000 likes, with viewers completely charmed by the oddly specific feline habit.

And believe it or not, there’s actually a reason for it.

Experts say many domestic cats are fascinated by running water due to instincts inherited from their wild ancestors. In the wild, flowing streams were often safer and cleaner than stagnant water sources. That instinct hasn’t gone away.

Running water also grabs a cat’s attention with its movement, sound, and reflections of light. Some cats will paw at it, try to drink from it mid-stream, or simply sit nearby and watch it like it’s a live show.

Pet fountains are often recommended for this reason. The constant flow can encourage cats to drink more water, which may help reduce urinary and kidney issues linked to dehydration.

Of course, not all cats are fans. Some avoid tap water entirely because of its taste or smell. Others prefer their water bowls placed far from their food — another instinct tied to survival behaviors in the wild.

But this particular cat? He seems to have found his perfect white noise machine.

The comment section was just as entertaining as the video itself.

“Mind if I put on some white noise?” one viewer joked.

Another chimed in, “The obvious answer is that he’s learning to be a plumber and was too embarrassed to practice when people are around.”

One commenter even admitted they make sure their own sink is turned to cold “for this exact reason.”
