Los Angeles may be famous for celebrities, tourists and trendsetters, but the hills surrounding the city are also home to plenty of wildlife.
Black bears, mountain lions and other wild animals are regularly spotted in the area, though one housesitter still got the surprise of a lifetime when she looked outside and discovered a bear enjoying the backyard pool.
Actress and filmmaker @chelseadebo captured the unexpected visitor on July 24.
The black bear casually wandered into the yard before climbing into the water as though the pool had been prepared especially for him.
Instead of splashing around or quickly cooling off, the relaxed animal settled into the pool and lounged against the side in a remarkably human-like position.
The bear appeared completely unbothered as he enjoyed a break from the summer heat.

Viewers were delighted by the animal’s calm attitude and joked that he looked like a demanding resort guest.
One commenter said the bear appeared to be “wondering where the hell the cocktail waitress is.”
A cooler and a box of drinks were already sitting near the pool, making it look as though the bear had arrived for his own private pool party.
“Why does he act like he’s done this before?” another viewer asked.
Judging by how confidently he entered the yard and made himself comfortable, many viewers suspected this may not have been his first swim.
Several Los Angeles-area residents also shared stories about bears visiting their own pools during hot weather.
The housesitter may have expected a quiet afternoon, but her unexpected guest clearly had other plans. For a few unforgettable minutes, the backyard belonged entirely to the bear.
