A Golden Retriever had the funniest reaction after coming face-to-face with his own reflection in the mirror — and he clearly wasn’t sure what to make of the “other dog” staring back at him.
In a hilarious TikTok video, the Golden’s mom captured the moment her pup found himself in a mini standoff with his reflection.
The dog stood directly in front of the mirror, staring intensely at the mysterious Golden on the other side. After a few seconds, he let out a low growl, apparently unsure whether his reflection was friend or foe.
“Look, it’s you,” his mom told him as he cautiously moved closer to investigate.
Her reassurance didn’t seem to convince him.
The Golden turned his attention back to the mirror and started barking at his reflection. At one point, he approached the glass again for an even closer look while his mom continued trying to explain that the dog he was confronting was actually himself.
“That’s you,” she reassured him.

In the caption, his mom joked, “I don’t recognize myself in mirrors either buddy.”
Viewers couldn’t get enough of the Golden’s suspicious reaction.
“This town ain’t big enough for the two of us,” one person joked, imagining what the pup might have been thinking.
Another viewer had a similar theory, writing that the Golden appeared to be saying, “There can only be ONE cutie patootie in this household.”
One commenter admitted they’ve always wondered what dogs think when they encounter their own reflections, especially since they don’t exactly stop to take “mirror selfies” like humans do.
The Golden’s mom had the perfect response.
“Apparently he wasn’t a fan of what he was seeing 😅 but I think he’s a pretty cute guy!”
Judging by his barking and intense stare-down, this Golden may need a little more time before he realizes the handsome stranger in the mirror isn’t actually trying to steal his territory.
