A determined German Shorthaired Pointer puppy refused to give up on becoming friends with a horse, even though her new equine pal wasn’t quite sure what to make of all that puppy energy at first.

The puppy, named Fennie Loo, was completely fascinated by a horse named Athena and kept trying to win her over.

At first, the two were separated by a mesh fence, giving Athena some space while Fennie bounced around excitedly on a leash.

But Fennie clearly had no plans to give up.

A sweet Instagram Reel shared by @rileyandnova shows how their unlikely friendship slowly developed over time.

The video begins with clips labeled “how it started,” showing Fennie eagerly greeting Athena from behind the fence.

Athena appears calm and patient while the energetic puppy tries everything she can to get closer.

Eventually, that patience paid off.

Later clips show the fence gone completely, with Fennie and Athena standing side by side and affectionately sniffing and licking each other.

The words on the screen then change to “how it’s going,” showing just how far their friendship has come.

The post became even sweeter because its caption included what was essentially a love letter written from Fennie’s point of view about how much Athena means to her.

Viewers quickly fell in love with the unusual pair.

“Some friendships simply need a little time to grow, and it looks like Athena was absolutely worth the wait,” one person wrote.

Another joked, “Awww, Fennie, you are the horse whisperer.”

One viewer added, “Fennie Loo, this warms my heart. Friendship is such a gift and blessing. You and Athena are so precious.”

Another commenter summed up the moment perfectly: “Love comes in all shapes and sizes; this is so beautiful.”

Fennie may have started out as the overly enthusiastic puppy on the other side of the fence, but her persistence clearly worked.

Now, she and Athena seem to share the kind of friendship that was worth waiting for.
