A tiny black kitten who somehow ended up in the middle of a busy Massachusetts highway is getting a second chance at life, thanks to a kind stranger who spotted her just in time.

The adorable 7-week-old kitten was seen dodging cars along Interstate 93 North in Woburn last week. With vehicles passing nearby, the little furball was in a dangerous situation until a Good Samaritan managed to rescue her and bring her to safety.

The kitten was taken to the Animal Rescue League of Boston, where staff gave her a name inspired by her unusual adventure: Freeway.

And judging by her adorable photos, she’s already stealing hearts.

With her shiny black fur, enormous green eyes and tiny pink tongue, Freeway looks every bit the playful kitten. In one particularly sweet picture, she holds her little paws beneath her chin while sticking out her tongue.

It’s a remarkable change of scenery for a kitten who was recently struggling to avoid passing vehicles.

Freeway is now staying with a foster caregiver, where she can gain weight, grow stronger and enjoy the comforts of a safe home. Once she’s ready, the rescue organization hopes to find her a loving family of her own.

Exactly how such a young kitten ended up on the interstate remains a mystery, but her story has also inspired the shelter to challenge an old superstition about black cats.

While some people associate black cats with bad luck, Freeway’s remarkable rescue offers a much happier interpretation. After all, this little lady was fortunate enough to have someone looking out for her when she needed help most.

The Animal Rescue League says Freeway isn’t quite ready for adoption, but plenty of other cats and kittens are already waiting for families.

Her rescue also serves as a reminder of how important foster families are for vulnerable animals. They provide a safe place for young pets to grow and recover while shelters prepare them for permanent homes.

For anyone who spots an animal in danger on a busy highway, the rescue organization recommends contacting authorities rather than risking their own safety by entering traffic.

As for little Freeway, her days of dodging cars are hopefully far behind her. Now, all she needs is a forever family to complete her happy ending.
