A tiny kitten named JJ has not only survived a devastating fire—he’s now thriving in the home of the very first responder who saved his life.

In February, a grass fire broke out at a homeless encampment in Coon Rapids, Minnesota. Responding to the scene was Community Service Officer Eric Prindle. Amid the smoke and chaos, he spotted a badly injured kitten struggling to survive in the field.

“I looked at him and realized we needed to get him care right away,” Prindle said in an interview with FOX9. JJ had suffered serious eye injuries, severe facial burns, singed whiskers, and burnt ears.

Prindle rushed the kitten to the Animal Humane Society in Coon Rapids, all the while nervously hoping for signs of life in the backseat. “Please don’t be dead,” he recalled thinking. “And then I saw he was alive.”

JJ’s prognosis wasn’t promising at first. Dr. Kate Farmer, a veterinarian at the shelter, admitted, “He was kind of a long shot, but we wanted to give him a chance.”

Against the odds, JJ began to heal. Prindle kept visiting the brave little feline during his recovery. “He just touched me,” he said.

As JJ grew stronger, Prindle and his wife made the heartwarming decision to adopt him. Now, JJ is settling into his forever home, where he’s continuing to recover—playfully exploring, bonding with Prindle’s dog Twinkie, and even growing his whiskers back.

“He’s adjusting real good,” Prindle said. “Watching his progress through the whole thing was just amazing.”

Though JJ still needs ointment for his scars, his journey is a testament to resilience—and to the bond that can form in the most unexpected moments.

“It was amazing to see his remarkable capacity to heal and his emotional resilience,” said Dr. Farmer. “He’s truly one special cat.”

  1. The world should have more humans as Mr. Prindle and it would not be such a sick society.
    Great candidate for cloning.

  2. Thank you, Mr. Prindle, for seeing this tiny life and getting him the help he badly needed.
AND TY to you and your Mrs. for allowing yourselves to be adopted by JJ 💞💕💗
