Most people think that all Golden Retrievers love the water. Whether in a pool, pond, ocean, or other body of water, we’ve all seen videos of their humans having a hard time getting them out.

But not all Goldens love the water. Pearl is a Golden who was afraid of the water for the first three years of her life. She wanted nothing to do with it. But with a bit of patience and allowing Pearl to set the pace, her mom was able to help Pearl gain the confidence she needed to be comfortable in the water. Pearl’s mom shares some great tips to help your dog find their confidence, too!

Go, Pearl, go! It’s clear now that Pearl loves the water as much as any other Golden. Although it took her a long time to finally get in the pool, we bet they can’t keep her out now! Even @PetSmart chimed in and cheered her on, “Go Pearl!!!”

Commenters all shared similar stories about their ‘water dogs’ who didn’t always like the water. @sheryl_marie15 said, “My yellow Lab didn’t like water. He will wait until it stopped raining so he could go to the bathroom. He will only go in the pool if I was in and he seemed upset about it LOL! Gooo Miss Pearl!!!”

@Rosebudgoldengirl’s mom shared, “I wish that Rosebud loved it, but she doesn’t get enough exposure. I also think that a swim vest really helps some dogs’ confidence. So that way they’re not sinking as much.”

Viewer @fivetobrew made us all smile with their comment, “I love the peaceful feeling and smell of a passed out wet dog, exhausted from swimming with her people all day!!”
