I never understood why my mom spent hours in the garden until I developed my own interest in plants in college. I quickly went from a casual plant parent to a dedicated garden guru, but there will always be elements of gardening that I can’t control, like when animals make an appearance!
As fun as it can be to see birds, squirrels, and even baby bunnies in the garden, it’s so frustrating to find a plant that’s been nibbled to shreds. Other gardeners like @thedizzyantelope are smart to install deer netting around important plants and crops, but, as Dizzy discovered, this helpful tool isn’t invincible.
She found the cutest intruder in her potato patch on May 22, but the way she handled the adorable deer encounter was just as sweet as the deer itself.

This is the cutest potato I’ve ever seen! The baby deer knows exactly what to do while they wait for mom to come back. Even when approached by a person, the fawn stayed perfectly in place!
“Ok, baby, just play potato while mom runs to the store,” one viewer commented. Isn’t it so sweet that the mama deer left her baby here? Even though the netting is meant to keep deer from nibbling on plants, the resourceful fawn and their mom found their way around it with no issue whatsoever.
Luckily, the gardener couldn’t be more welcoming! Not only did she let the fawn wait for mom in the potato patch, but she even left some deer-safe snacks for mama when she returns.
