A Detroit woman has captured hearts online after sharing a viral TikTok video of her unexpected friendship with a homeless cat and her tiny kitten.
Posted under the username @bigdirtydann, the August 6 clip shows Dani pulling into her apartment complex to find the mama cat sitting in the middle of the road with her baby. As Dani gets closer, the cat gently sets her kitten down, meowing as if to say hello.

“She saw me pulling in and she sat her baby down and waited for me,” the on-screen text reads. In the caption, Dani admits, “Okay I’m a cat lady y’all. And yes I’m crazy and yes I like cats more than people and other animals. I really want to keep them both.”
Dani explained that she first noticed the cat was pregnant a few weeks ago and began leaving food out for her. About a week later, she spotted the new mom carrying her baby and was stunned when the cat stopped, placed the kitten on the ground, and waited for her.
“She trusted me enough to bring me her precious baby,” Dani said. Sadly, apartment rules prevent her from taking them in — she’s already been threatened with eviction for keeping her emotional support cat. “I still feed her daily, but I haven’t found where she’s keeping the rest of her kittens,” she explained.
Animal experts estimate there are between 60 and 100 million stray and feral cats in the U.S., many of which rely on human kindness to survive. Stray cats are often more comfortable around people and may seek out food or companionship, while ferals usually avoid humans and stick to colonies.
The touching video has been viewed over 2.8 million times and has racked up more than 601,000 likes. Commenters flooded the post with pleas for Dani to help the pair. “She trusted you enough to bring you her baby,” one wrote. “Keep them both, you were chosen,” another urged.
For now, Dani is keeping their bowls full — and hoping she can find a safe, permanent solution for her new feline friends.
