A fisherman’s proud trophy moment turned into a hilarious wildlife ambush when a hungry sea lion decided his fresh catch looked too good to pass up.
The wild moment happened in Otago Harbor, where a man was out fishing with friends when he reeled in a huge fish. Naturally, he wanted a photo with his impressive catch before the day was over.
But the local wildlife had other plans.
As the fisherman stood near the water, proudly holding up the fish for a picture, a sea lion suddenly launched itself out of the harbor and made a beeline for the prize.
In seconds, the fisherman’s perfect photo op turned into total chaos.
The massive sea lion lunged toward the group, clearly locked in on the fish. The fisherman quickly realized he was not about to win a tug-of-war with a giant sea animal and let the catch go.
The sea lion then got exactly what it came for, devouring the fish while the stunned group reacted in disbelief.

Luckily, someone was filming the entire thing, turning what could have been a regular fishing brag into a much better story.
Viewers could not get enough of the unexpected seafood heist.
