A woman running errands ended up with a surprise she never expected: a free French bulldog.

Jarnell Garland, known on TikTok as @bakingitpretty, shared a video Monday that quickly went viral, racking up over 8 million views and 1.2 million likes. What started as a simple trip to buy batteries turned into a heartwarming rescue mission.

While driving through a parking lot, Garland spotted a man with his car trunk open. Inside was a doggy gate filled with French bulldogs and a sign that read “Free” and “Free to a loving home.” Garland couldn’t believe her eyes—Frenchies usually come with a hefty price tag, ranging from $1,500 to $3,500, according to Dogster, though adoption fees are typically much lower.

“He didn’t give a specific reason other than he wanted them to go to a loving, caring home,” Garland explained.

Before she knew it, her impulsive instincts had taken over. One of the dogs was sitting in the back seat, and Garland was driving home with a brand-new furry companion.

In the video, the dog looks a little nervous at first, but he quickly settled in. Garland named him Prince, and he’s already become a local celebrity. She even started a TikTok account for him, @prince_frenchie, which gained over 5,400 followers in just two days.

“Prince has adjusted perfectly to his new environment,” Garland said. “He walks around like he owns the place. It took him about a day or so to come out of his shell, but now he literally follows me around like a shadow.”

The video sparked a mix of reactions online. Some viewers were concerned, given the breed’s high price, and wondered if Prince or his siblings had health issues. Garland reassured fans that Prince is healthy, noting only minor, controllable allergies. “I did take him to the vet soon after getting him,” she said.

Other viewers were thrilled by Garland’s luck. “Baby I would’ve had all three of them in my car! Why is the dog distribution system skipping meeeeee this year?” one wrote.

“This is what I love. He didn’t throw them out or try to make money; he just wanted to rehome them,” commented another.

For Garland, what started as a quick errand turned into a heartwarming story of love, luck, and a new four-legged friend.
