A dog mom decided to put her golden retriever’s intelligence to the test in a viral Instagram video — and she was completely unprepared for how quickly her pup would show her up.
The funny clip, shared Sunday by 25-year-old Lily from Boston, Massachusetts, under the username @winterthegoldenn, shows her holding her dog Winter up against a wall to see whether she would instinctively reach out and touch it with her paws.
“Trying to see if my dog is smart,” text over the video reads.
Seconds later, Winter passes the test without hesitation, stretching her paws straight out and touching the wall — stunning her owner and anyone watching.
The caption adds a joking twist: “Just beat the dumb blonde allegations.”

Lily explained that Winter is 2 years old and already has a big online following thanks to her expressive personality and charm.
“Winter passed the test by putting her paws out right away, which felt like a proud and very funny moment for us,” Lily said. “She’s a sweet, intuitive, and expressive dog who loves being involved in whatever’s going on. She was so excited when all my roommates started clapping for her.”
Winter’s video quickly exploded online, pulling in more than 459,000 views and over 31,000 likes.
Viewers flooded the comments with praise and jokes.
“Of course, a natural blonde (GOLDEN), so smart,” one user wrote.
Another commented, “How dare you question her intelligence! Give her a treat right this instance!”
One pet owner added, “Ours did almost the exact same. The first time they didn’t know what was happening, then the second time they totally got it.”
Winter’s instant win didn’t just prove her smarts — it also reminded the internet why golden retrievers have a reputation for being both lovable and surprisingly clever.
