While social media is flooded with optimistic “new year, new me” posts, one cat owner has learned that not everyone in the household is on board with fresh goals — especially not the cat.
Novo, a tuxedo cat who’s a mix of ragdoll and Siberian, has gone viral after being caught on camera erasing his owner’s 2026 resolutions straight off a whiteboard using his paws. The moment was shared on TikTok and instantly struck a chord with viewers who are already feeling less motivated just days into the new year.
The video, posted to @novothetuxedo, is captioned, “5th January and they’ve already been scrapped,” and shows Novo calmly rubbing out nearly every goal in sight. Text layered over the clip reads, “Now that’s a cat who has absolutely no time for this new year, new goals, nonsense.”

The post has already racked up more than 110,000 views and over 17,500 likes, proving that Novo’s anti-resolution stance is extremely relatable.
Despite Novo’s clear disapproval, research suggests most humans still believe in setting goals. A 2025 YouGov poll found that 63 percent of people planning to make resolutions for 2026 believed those goals would help improve their year. A separate Pew Research Center survey showed that nearly a month into the new year, most respondents said they were still sticking to their resolutions, though 13 percent admitted they had already abandoned them.
Health-related goals dominated the list, with 79 percent of people focusing on fitness, exercise, or diet. Others prioritized money and finances, relationships, hobbies, or career ambitions.
Novo, however, appears determined to shut all of that down.
In the video, the owner zooms in as the cat methodically wipes out one column of goals before moving on to the next. Viewers were quick to notice that Novo seemed especially offended by the travel plans — something many cat owners say makes perfect sense.
“It’s the travel bit he’s not keen on,” one user commented, joking that Novo probably doesn’t want to be sent to a cattery. The same commenter pointed out that he spared the money-saving goal, adding, “How many treats could she buy with £30k!”
The owner replied to another viewer, writing, “He’s seen ‘travel somewhere new’ and he’s like NOPE. Not unless you’re taking me with you.”
Other TikTok users couldn’t help but relate. “Honestly same vibe over here with my resolutions,” one person wrote. Another asked, “Can he do mine as well?”
The owner’s response summed it up perfectly: “If you want your ambitions killed, then yes he can.”
