Some wildlife encounters are so sweet they feel almost too perfect to be real.
That is exactly what happened to Alaska native Lexi Hilli when she spotted a mama sea otter floating in the water near Homer Spit, Alaska, with her tiny baby resting close by.
Lexi shared the adorable video on May 21, and it did not take long for animal lovers to understand why she was completely losing her mind over the moment.
The mama sea otter appeared to drift near Lexi while showing off her fluffy pup, giving her an up-close look at one of the cutest sights in nature.
Lexi could barely contain her excitement.
At one point, she hilariously asked the otter, “Are you coming here maliciously or as a friend?”
That one line had viewers cracking up, especially those who know otters can be a little more complicated than their cute faces suggest.

One commenter explained the difference in the funniest way, writing, “Sea otters are beautiful, lovely little creatures. North American river otters will fight you with nothing but their teeth and a broken bottle in the alleyway behind the 7-Eleven. And I love them both equally.”
Thankfully, this mama sea otter did not appear to be looking for trouble.
She seemed more interested in relaxing, floating, and letting Lexi admire her baby.
Another viewer joked that sea otters love to show off two things: “their babies and their favorite rock.”
This proud mama clearly had the baby part covered.
The encounter reportedly lasted for nearly an hour before Lexi had to leave, making the moment even more special. The otter seemed calm and comfortable, even closing her eyes while floating near people and boats.
For viewers who have never seen a wild sea otter up close, the video felt like a tiny window into Alaska’s magic.
Getting that close to a baby sea otter in the wild is not something most people ever experience. Seeing the mother so relaxed made the whole thing even more heartwarming.
Lexi may have started out unsure whether the otter was arriving as a friend or a threat, but by the end, it was obvious.
This mama sea otter just wanted to float, show off her baby, and accidentally become the internet’s favorite proud parent.
