A fearless stray mama cat proved she was not about to let anything happen to her babies after a coyote got a little too close.

The dramatic moment was caught on doorbell camera and shared by KTLA 5 News. In the footage, the coyote appears to go after a couple of the cat’s kittens, but mama was not having it.

Instead of running away, the stray cat, named Puffy Girl, launched herself at the much larger animal and fought back with everything she had. She pounced, swatted and chased the coyote away, making it very clear that her kittens were off-limits.

Despite the major size difference, Puffy Girl looked like the clear winner of the showdown.

According to the man who shared the clip, he helps feed the stray cat and later confirmed that Puffy Girl and her kittens were all doing OK after the scary encounter.

The video quickly struck a nerve online, with viewers praising the tough mama cat for protecting her babies.

One TikTok user called her “Momma Bear,” while another wrote, “Street cats are the most fearless.”

Another viewer summed up the moment perfectly, writing, “I love females of ALL species. We are unstoppable.”

Many commenters also urged someone to rescue Puffy Girl and her kittens, worried that the coyote could come back.

Helping outdoor cats can be complicated, but there are ways to make life safer for them. Providing food during the day instead of at night, offering secure shelter, and contacting a local rescue or trap-neuter-return group can help protect stray and feral cats from predators.

For now, Puffy Girl has made one thing very clear: if anything comes near her kittens, it had better be ready for a fight.
