TikToker SCUBA DAN (@scubadan_) regularly takes snorkelers and divers on unforgettable underwater adventures at Turtle Beach and other popular dive sites throughout the Bahamas.
Most visitors arrive hoping to see sea turtles, colorful tropical fish or perhaps a playful dolphin. Spotting a whale is much rarer, while swimming near a pod of orcas is the kind of experience most ocean lovers can only dream about.
That dream recently became a reality when two curious killer whales unexpectedly approached Dan and his group during a snorkeling trip.
Even after countless encounters with marine life, Dan said the remarkable moment finally earned him his “orca emoji.”
The stunning visit was brief, but it lasted long enough to leave the snorkelers speechless. Video from the encounter shows the enormous black-and-white whales moving gracefully through the clear water near the group.

“Are we swimming with orcas or are the orcas choosing to swim with us?” Dan wondered in the caption.
Considering that the whales were the ones who approached, it certainly appeared that the orcas were just as curious about their unexpected human visitors.
Dan later shared a follow-up video with an important reminder for anyone lucky enough to experience a similar encounter. Orcas hunt in pods, so swimmers must remain aware of everything happening around them.
“There will be times you get lost in the moment. Fixated on one orca,” he explained. “Gotta remember the rest of the pod is usually nearby. Especially when they are munching the turtle population.”
The breathtaking encounter offered a rare look at these powerful animals in their natural habitat—and gave the snorkelers a vacation story they will undoubtedly be telling for the rest of their lives.
