A woman who headed out expecting to make a simple trip to the store ended up returning home with something completely unexpected — an abandoned puppy she rescued from the middle of a massive soybean field.
Stormie Mackenzie Voight heard faint cries coming from somewhere deep inside the field and decided she couldn’t ignore them.
Anyone who has seen a sprawling soybean field knows just how difficult that search could be. The plants can stretch seemingly forever, but Stormie pushed through until she finally found the tiny puppy responsible for the cries.
Video from the rescue shows Stormie making the exhausting walk back with the pup safely tucked in her arms. As she turns the camera toward the field behind her, it becomes clear just how far she had traveled to reach him.
Stormie looked worn out by the time she was heading home, but the little puppy was finally safe.
She later joked that her fiancé may be getting used to her unexpected animal rescue missions.
“My fiance might really leave me for all the animal rescue missions I’ve undertaken!” she wrote in the caption. “I told him I was going to the store for rice and I came back with Bean.”

The name couldn’t have been more fitting.
Because the puppy was discovered in a soybean field, he was eventually given the adorable name Soyer Bean.
Fortunately, Bean quickly began bouncing back after his frightening start.
Stormie shared updates showing that after getting some much-needed rest, the puppy was already doing noticeably better. By the next day, he was eating, drinking and playing like a happy young pup.
Bean continued getting stronger and more comfortable as he settled into life with Stormie and her family.
And while Stormie already has several dogs of her own, Bean won’t be disappearing from her life anytime soon.
The puppy is going to live with Stormie’s mother, who appears to have fallen just as hard for the adorable rescue.
That means Bean gets a permanent home while Stormie can still visit the little dog she trekked through an enormous field to save.
Soyer Bean may have been found crying alone among rows of soybeans, but his story ended very differently thanks to one woman who heard him and refused to walk away.
Now the once-lost puppy has food, a family and a name that perfectly captures the unbelievable place where his new life began.
