A tiny stray kitten apparently decided she had found her people after spotting a couple walking their dog — and then following them all the way home.

The adorable tortoiseshell kitten, now named Cleo, crossed paths with Abby Kaye Pell and her partner while they were out walking their dog, Juniper, on Aug. 12.

At first, Abby wasn’t exactly planning to become a cat owner.

But Cleo seemed to have other ideas.

The little kitten followed the couple home, and by the next day, it was already becoming clear that she had no intention of leaving.

Cleo casually walked into the house as if she had lived there forever, quickly winning over both humans and dog.

For Abby, who had never cared for a kitten before, the unexpected arrival became her first experience with what animal lovers jokingly call the “cat distribution system” — when a stray cat seemingly chooses its own family.

Viewers watching Cleo’s story online were immediately charmed.

One commenter joked that the kitten must have noticed how well Juniper was treated and decided she wanted the same deal.

“She saw the dogs were well taken care of and decided y’all would also take care of her,” the viewer wrote.

And honestly, Cleo seemed pretty confident she had made the right choice.

Juniper’s reaction made the rescue even sweeter.

The dog had reportedly been a mother before and quickly seemed interested in the tiny newcomer.

Still, Abby and her partner took the responsible route and kept Cleo separated from Juniper at first.

Because Cleo had been living outside, there was always a possibility she could be carrying fleas, parasites or an illness that could spread to another pet.

Keeping a newly rescued stray kitten separated until a veterinary check is an important precaution before allowing animals to fully interact.

In the meantime, Cleo received exactly what she needed.

She was given a warm bath, plenty of food and a safe place to rest after life outdoors.

Abby also turned to other cat owners for advice as she learned how to care for her first kitten.

Viewers offered tips about feeding, cleaning and helping the tiny tortie adjust to indoor life.

Fortunately, Cleo appeared more than ready to make herself comfortable.

Within just a short time, the formerly homeless kitten was settling into her new surroundings and bonding with the family that had unexpectedly become hers.

What began as an ordinary dog walk ended with one tiny kitten finding a home — and one family gaining a new member they never expected.

Cleo may have started the day as a stray, but after choosing the right people to follow, she didn’t stay one for long.
