Every cat has its quirks, but one orange rescue cat named Phillip has taken drinking water to a whole new level.
Phillip was adopted from a shelter and quickly revealed one very unusual habit. Instead of simply lowering his head and drinking from his bowl like most cats, he dips one paw into the water, scoops some up and then licks it from his paw.
It’s almost like he prefers to work for every sip.
His strange little routine has become one of the things his family loves most about him. No one knows exactly where Phillip picked up the habit, but it has certainly added to his personality since coming home.
His owner joked that the shelter essentially warned her what she was getting into by adopting an orange cat.
As cat lovers know, orange cats have developed a reputation online for being especially chaotic, goofy and unpredictable — and Phillip seems determined to live up to it.
There’s nothing wrong with his paw-dipping technique as long as he is drinking enough water, and Phillip clearly seems happy doing things his own way.

The unusual habit quickly caught viewers’ attention online.
“If you’re getting an orange cat….you knew what you were getting into,” one person joked.
Another viewer offered a theory that Phillip may have developed the behavior from a previous life outdoors, suggesting a cat living near moving water might have learned to scoop water rather than drink directly from it.
Other cat owners said Phillip is far from alone.
“My cat does this too,” one person wrote, before revealing an even stranger habit. “He also scoops up kibble in his mouth to carry to the water bowl, then drops it in the water to make his own cereal.”
Whether Phillip’s drinking style comes from instinct, an old habit or simply another case of classic orange-cat behavior, one thing is certain — he has found a very entertaining way to stay hydrated.
