One very curious tabby just learned an important lesson about kitchen appliances — and millions of people are laughing right along with his owner.
Lauren, who posts as @therealfartgallery, shared a hilarious video of her cat closely inspecting a toaster as it worked its mysterious breakfast magic.
The tabby looks completely fascinated, staring at the appliance like he’s trying to crack the case of what exactly is happening inside.
Then the toast pops.
And so does the cat.
The sudden movement sends him dramatically falling backward before scrambling away as fast as his paws can carry him.
Lauren jokingly described the moment as her cat getting “humbled by the toaster,” which feels pretty accurate considering how quickly his confidence disappeared.
Thankfully, he appeared to be fine after the scare. Lauren can even be heard checking on him while laughing at his incredibly dramatic reaction.
The clip quickly took off online, racking up nearly 8 million views and more than 5,000 comments.

Viewers could not get enough of the way he seemed to simply topple backward from pure shock.
One commenter joked that the cat looked like his life had flashed before his eyes, while another said they had expected a huge vertical jump — not a full-body collapse.
Lauren appeared just as entertained by his reaction, joking in the comments about the dramatic “full body slam.”
The tabby may have gone into the investigation feeling like a fearless kitchen detective, but the toaster clearly won this round.
