Amie had one special wish for her wedding day — to walk down the aisle with the dog who had been by her side since she was just 13 years old.

And somehow, 16-year-old Billy made it happen.

The senior Yellow Labrador had grown up alongside Amie, sharing nearly every major chapter of her life. So when she began planning her wedding in England, there was never any question that she wanted Billy there too.

The only uncertainty was whether he would be healthy enough to make it.

By the time the wedding approached, Billy was showing his age. Walking had become more difficult, and Amie reportedly worried that her beloved childhood dog might not live long enough to see the big day.

Still, she included him in the wedding preparations whenever she could.

Then the day finally arrived.

Video shared online shows Billy dressed for the occasion and resting in a small bed before it was time for his big moment. Amie stops to pet him before the pair begin making their way toward the altar together.

All Amie wanted was for Billy to give her away… and he did. 🥹🤍 Billy is 16 years old. He’s Amie’s childhood dog. She’s had him by her side since she was just 13 years old — through growing up, through every chapter of her life… and now, her wedding day. 🐾 There was only one thing Amie desperately wanted. For Billy to be the one to give her away. 🤍 At 16, he’s a little slower these days. His legs aren’t quite as steady as they once were, and we knew we’d have to take everything completely at Billy’s pace. And then the moment came… Slowly, carefully, one little step at a time, Billy walked her down that aisle. He made it. 🥹😭 And I don’t think there was a dry eye in the room. And once his very important job was done, we had a comfy bed waiting for him at the front of the ceremony. I sat beside him while he settled down and he watched the girl he’d loved since she was 13 years old get married. 😭🤍 Of all the wedding chaperones I’ve been lucky enough to be part of, this is one of those moments I know I’ll never forget. Because sometimes having your dog at your wedding isn’t just about the photographs. Sometimes it means everything. 🤍🐾 Billy, you absolute little legend. You did it. 🥹 #weddingdogchaperone #elderlydog #olddog #weddingchaperone #wedding

Billy moved slowly, but he kept going.

Step by step, the elderly Lab walked beside the bride until they reached the front of the church.

For Amie, it was far more than simply having a dog at her wedding. Billy had been with her through her teenage years and into adulthood, and now he was there for one of the biggest moments of her life.

The touching scene was also captured by Cheshire Dog Lady, an England-based dog-care company that offers a wedding chaperone service specifically designed to help couples include their dogs in ceremonies and photographs.

Once the video reached social media, viewers quickly became emotional.

One commenter joked that there would be so many tears on the church floor that the bride could practically slip on them.

But the story became even more heartbreaking after the wedding.

According to later reports based on updates from Billy’s social-media account, the 16-year-old dog died shortly after fulfilling Amie’s wish of accompanying her down the aisle. One report said his death was announced on Sept. 12, just days after video of the wedding was shared.

That made Billy’s slow walk beside Amie one of their final memories together.

For 16 years, he had been there as she grew up. And when she reached another major milestone, he managed to be there one last time.

It is easy to see why the video touched so many dog lovers. Billy may have been moving a little slower by then, but when his person needed him for one more important walk, he was right there beside her.
