A 6-month-old Basset Hound has the internet laughing after deciding that one short neighborhood walk was more than enough exercise for the day.
Danielle Sheppard had taken her young Basset Hound and German Shepherd out for a walk near their home when the puppy suddenly decided he was finished.
Completely finished.
The group had only gone about a block to a nearby cul-de-sac and then a little farther toward a stop sign.
But for the Basset Hound, that apparently counted as a major expedition.
As Danielle turned the dogs around to head home, the puppy simply lay down.
Then he fell asleep.
Right there.
On the walk.

The German Shepherd, meanwhile, was still ready to keep moving and seemed much more committed to the outing.
Danielle’s commentary makes the whole scene even funnier as she tries to process the fact that one of her dogs has effectively clocked out halfway through the walk.
She joked in the caption, “We did our best.”
And honestly, that seems fair.
The German Shepherd did the walking.
Danielle did the encouraging.
The Basset Hound did the napping.
Basset Hounds are known for being lovable, laid-back and sometimes hilariously stubborn, so this little guy’s behavior feels very on-brand.
Their long bodies and short legs also mean even ordinary walks can feel like serious work, especially for a young puppy.
Of course, puppies also need plenty of rest, and a 6-month-old dog can tire out quickly after bursts of activity.
Still, collapsing and falling asleep before making it home is a pretty dramatic way to announce that walk time is over.
One thing is clear.
This puppy did not quit.
He simply decided the sidewalk was now his bed.
