Making new friends can be intimidating, especially when you’re a tiny Dachshund who isn’t quite sure how to say hello.
One adorable Miniature Dachshund is melting hearts on TikTok after his owner shared a sweet video of him working up the courage to meet other dogs. At nearly three years old, the little pup is still learning how to socialize, and his nervous attempts at making friends are almost too precious to handle.
In the video, shared by TikTok user @andrealacyplum, the shy pup encounters several dogs during a walk. While the others seem perfectly comfortable interacting, he hangs back, quietly observing from a safe distance.
His mom stays nearby, offering encouragement without immediately stepping in to rescue him. After a little hesitation, the Dachshund finally gathers enough courage to approach another dog for a cautious sniff. It’s a tiny victory, but for this nervous little guy, it’s a big accomplishment.
“Watching my anxious Mini Dachshund try to make friends makes me want to cry,” his owner wrote.
She admitted that resisting the urge to comfort him isn’t easy, explaining that she has to stop herself from kneeling beside him so he can build confidence independently.
The little guy is “almost three and still learning how to play with other doggos,” she added.

Viewers quickly fell in love with the timid pup, and many praised his mom for patiently helping him become more comfortable around other dogs.
“You’re doing amazing with him,” one commenter wrote.
Other dog owners understood the struggle all too well. One shared that her nearly two-year-old dog still picks and chooses which dogs she wants to befriend.
Another described a similarly bashful pup who needs a few minutes and some friendly sniffs before finding her confidence.
For naturally timid dogs, meeting unfamiliar animals can take extra time. Allowing them to approach at their own pace, rewarding calm behavior, and respecting signs of discomfort can help create positive experiences without overwhelming them.
And while this sweet Dachshund might never be the most outgoing dog at the park, he’s already proving that even the shyest little pups can make progress.
Sometimes, all it takes is a patient mom, a friendly dog, and the courage to say hello with one tiny sniff.
